Robert Moore (Rick Gomez) and Busby Evans (Claude Brooks) were the young A&R (Artists and Repertoire) guys at Hitower Records, a struggling record company run by the obnoxious and tyrannical Jimmy Esposito (Andrew Dice Clay).
Busby was a smooth operator with great ideas and a velvet tongue who needed the more responsible Robert to smooth things over when he alienated performers they were trying to sign.
Jimmy’s sleazy promotional head, Tommy Stans (Spencer Garrett), was “the most pathetic, slimy weasel in the promo game” – and those were just his good points.
Stanford Law School graduate Angela (Kristin Dattilo) was the company’s lawyer, and April was the publicist (Rosa Blasi).
Stories followed Busby and Robert’s antics as they struggled with their obnoxious boss, unruly artists, and confused romantic lives, all while the constant threat of losing their jobs hung ominously over their heads.
Riff’s Bar was their regular local watering hole, where Neil (Reno Wilson) was the bartender.
