This six-part series from Thames Television was set in the newsroom of satellite channel TNC.
In the debut episode, reporter Sam Courtney (Bill Nighy) and his crew were taken hostage by rioting prisoners. Meanwhile, his colleague Anita Markham (Alphonsia Emmanuel) was in Australia on the trail of a missing British policeman charged with murder.
Alex Hendry (Clive Arrindell) owned the station and brought his own self-publicising style to its day-to-day operations.
Tom Cotcher played editor Eddie Fraser; Gawn Grainger was journalist Pelham Beecher; Nichola McAuliffe was hard-bitten reporter Carrie Vernon; Annie Lambert was consumer spot presenter Jill Wycombe, and Charlotte Attenborough was Lucy Trent, the baby of the team.
Subsequent episodes featured stories from Paris, Dublin, Athens and West Germany.
