13-year-old New Yorker Molloy Martin (Mayim Bialik) has her life turned upside-down when her mother dies, and she must move to Beverly Hills to live with her father, Paul (Kevin Scannell), his new wife, Lynn (Pamela Brull), her daughter – 16-year old Courtney (an early role for future Friends star Jennifer Aniston) – and her young half-brother, Jason (Luke Edwards).
Molloy has a job on a children’s show called Wonderland (alongside Joey the Squirrel) for public television network KQET-TV.
While her vain new stepmom is concerned with bikini waxes, designer labels and Mercedes cars, outspoken Molloy has a very developed social conscience and cares deeply about mankind and the quality of life, as evidenced when she rallies Beverly Hills maids to go on strike for better working conditions.
Fox didn’t schedule more than four episodes of the series, leaving Mayim Bialik free to star in another comedy for NBC. That show was Blossom,which really launched her career.
She would later go on to international fame as Amy Farrah Fowler on Big Bang Theory
