Tired of being bullied, polite, intelligent 11-year-old Edgar (Guy Faulkner) organises his fellow pupils at Great Middleton Junior School into a vigilante police force – complete with ID badges, detective ranks, warrant cards, and files on suspects – and sets out to bring justice to the school.
Operating from a makeshift HQ in a derelict pub, the kids eradicate bullying and petty crime from the school, but the success of the scheme gives Edgar an unexpected sense of power, and the short arm of the law takes a sinister turn when he is publicly humiliated by unpopular teacher, Mr Acheson (Oliver Ford Davies).
The Police aired at 9.20 pm on Sunday 16 September 1990 as part of the BBC anthology drama series, Screen One. The play was written by Arthur Ellis who also wrote The Black and Blue Lamp.
