Porkpie (so named because of his hat) had been a regular character on the Channel 4 comedy series Desmond’s. When that show folded in 1994, Ram John Holder’s pensioner-cum-lollipop man character was spun-off into his own series.
Veteran loafer Porkpie is living in a flat in Peckham when he wins £10 million on the lottery. Soon he has an amiable driver called Benji (Derek Griffiths) and a sharp-tongued maid called Leone (Llewella Gideon) and is fending off ladies of a certain age who are determined to get their hooks into his millions.
Geff Francis and Mathilda Thorpe reprised their roles from Desmond’s as Porkpie’s nephew, Michael, and his wife Mandy.
