Created by Zoo Gang Productions, sponsored by Hippo Fromage Frais and filmed at Pinewood Studios, this pre-school ITV series premiered on 3 January 1996.
The series revolved around a small family of hippopotamuses: Father Herbie (who seems to be from the West Country) and Mother Hippy (who oddly is Welsh) and their children Hazel and Hinkley.
Other characters living in the park with the Potamus family included Ticker, (a know-it-all bird,) Got To Guess, (a blue creature that used mime to communicate), Mindy and Mo (two Moles who lived in a wishing well and used a bucket as a lift whenever the hippopotamuses needed help) and the three anthropomorphic wallflowers, who introduced every episode.
Episodes later aired in Canada on YTV and in the US on the Disney Channel.
