American journalist Katie Puckrik invited a bunch of like-minded ladies to slip into their nighties or jim-jams for a slumber party with a difference in this late Saturday night ITV talk show.
Katie’s “gal-pal” co-hosts were Claudia Winkleman and Michelle Kelly.
Dressed in an alluring assortment of nighties, Puckrik and her co-presenters sashayed around the studio in satin slingbacks or lounged languorously on sofas, gossiping and eating midnight snacks in a frothy, frou-frou “sleepover” extravaganza with a decadent 1950s feel and retro cheesecake style.
Guests included actress Anna Friel; singer Tori Amos; former model and Bill Wyman‘s missus, Mandy Smith; Bernie Nolan; Tracy Shaw from Coronation Street; comedian Sean Hughes; Liverpool footballer Phil Babb; Hollyoaks star Shebah Ronay; pop duo Sparks; model Tizer Bailey; Jacqueline Pirie and Lisa Riley from Emmerdale; Jet from Gladiators; TV presenter Nino Firetto; singer Sarah Cracknell from Saint Etienne; Simon O’Brien from Brookside; antipodean heartthrob Peter Andre; porn star and page 3 girl (and future West Ham director!) Eve Vorley; Australian Heartbreak High actress Emma Roche; comedian Charlie Chuck; boy band 4Mandu (no, us neither) and a ‘sex aerobics’ instructor.
Male guests were snuck in and out of the back door so the grownups wouldn’t know.
Music in the studio was provided by the Sounds Superb Singers – Juliet Morel, Lynn Cooper and Yvonne Bainton – who provided easy listening renditions of popular songs.
Debuting on Saturday 6 January, the shows were recorded with an all-female audience in the studio and nobody was admitted wearing day clothes.
Puckrik remade the show in the US as Pajama Party in 2000, where her guests included David Cassidy, Jill Sobule, Coolio, Sean Young, Daisy Fuentes, Ashton Kutcher, Katey Sagal and Carmen Electra.
