The character of Sonic the Hedgehog – based on a video game from Sega – appeared in two different cartoons in 1993, both produced by DIC Enterprises.
The daily syndicated version, Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, had an accent on humour. In contrast, this weekly ABC series had Sonic (voiced by Jaleel White – Urkel from Family Matters) involved in a rather serious adventure assisting Princess Sally Acorn (Kath Soucie) – an anthropomorphic chipmunk – to find her father (Tim Curry) – though Sonic did maintain his tendency to make wisecracks in his somewhat whiny voice.
Their constant opponent was Dr Robotnik (voiced by Jim Cummings).
