Fearless, gravel-voiced “Super Dave” Osborne was the comic equivalent of Evel Knievel, willing to do a series of stunts that put his body in grave danger without blinking an eye, even though the stunts constantly went awry and mangled him.
Nonetheless, Dave (voiced by Bob EInstein) continued to ply his trade while serving as a US secret agent teamed with pal Fuji (Art Irizawa), who wore large eyeglasses and a baseball cap.
His archenemy was Slash Hazard (Charlie Adler), who had three jagged teeth and a buzz haircut from when he had been chased by Dave into a car compactor after Slash robbed a bank. He emerged from the compactor half-man, half-vehicle.
A live-action segment with Bob Einstein ended each show, where he played Super Dave doing a bungled stunt (for example, climbing inside a 16-foot yo-yo, which subsequently ran amok and rolled down a cliff).
Einstein had played the character for nearly a quarter of a century as a recurring guest on various variety shows, including Bizarre, The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and Late Night with David Letterman.
Bob Einstein died of cancer in January 2019. He was 76.
