1 9 9 2 – 1 9 9 3 (UK)
12 x 30 minute episodes
Sex, diaries and videotape in this energetic, clever comedy about angsty teenager, Peter Payne (Alex Langdon), who is infatuated with schoolgirl Amanda Jeffs (Liza Walker) and has a habit of using his camcorder for confessionals, incurring the wrath of his family – lecherous father (Daniel Peacock), dippy mother (Tilly Vosburgh) and sister Susie (Sukey Fekkes) – and best find Matthew (Aaron Carrington) in the process.
Peter also believes the multi-headed boil on his back is skin cancer.
Tony Robinson played the slightly sadistic headmaster, who would rather tend his garden than run the school.
Adapted by Daniel Peacock, who played Payne’s alcoholic pest-controller father, from a book of the same name by Aidan Macfarlane and Anne McPherson, the whole series only took six weeks to film.
Shooting took place at Southbourne School in Ruislip, Middlesex, with lots of genuine pupils as extras.
