From the Saved By The Bell stable, this was yet another show about good-looking teens at high school. The twist here was the setting being an American school in Paris, France (though the series was all taped in a California studio).
The American Academy of Paris was run by stuffy English headmaster Mr Elliot (Nicholas Guest). His daughter, Ashley (Kristen Miller), attended the school. The two American actors displayed some truly bizarre English accents.
Handsome chancer Jackson Greene (Josh Holland) was a surfer dude from San Diego, and his pumped-up pal Christian Mueller (Thomas Magiar) was German.
The other students included weight-conscious Lauren (Elena Lyons), jargon-spouting Winnie (Marquita Terry) – the token minority character – and irritating wheeler-dealer and class clown, Bobby Lazzarini (James Madio).
Miss Dupree (Angela Visser) was the beautiful French administrator.
Their adventures in Paris and their rites of passage dilemmas formed the basis of what was – like many of its contemporary shows – anodyne, unchallenging, superficial and sterile entertainment.
Unusually, the UK launch of USA High preceded the American launch, which occurred four months later.
