Based on the books by award-winning children’s author Malorie Blackman, this ITV series was about the titular alien (not much more than a floating furry face the size of a rugby ball with tiny hands stuck on it) who lived in Nottingham with the earthling Sinclair family after crash landing on the roof of their house.

Whizziwig was a “wish-giver” from the planet Oricon and granted wishes, providing that the wishing was done unselfishly on behalf of another.

In doing so, she involved her 11-year-old human friend Ben Sinclair (Louis McKenzie) and his best friend Steve (Matthew Barker) in all sorts of escapades.

Mona Hammond (Blossom in EastEnders) played Ben’s eccentric aunt, Dottie.
