This short-lived spring season CBS series starred Tom Conti (in his US television debut) as Charles Wright, a wry and whimsical British barrister who had taken up residence in New York City 15 years ago.
Wright was a respected member of the legal community and specialised in defending criminal cases but also served as a special prosecutor in government investigations.
Stories followed Wright’s courtroom performances as he often used outrageous dramatic repartee and antics to achieve his goals, protecting himself from the reality of what he did for a living by making jokes.
Other Regulars included Sandy Hamor (Margaret Colin), a former NYPD detective turned private investigator who worked as Wright’s legman and was tough and smart, except for her penchant for playing the ponies.
Lydia (Aida Turturro) was Wright’s super-efficient assistant.
The series aired from 31 March to 23 April 1995.
