Matt Berry and Rich Fulcher (who met whilst filming The Mighty Boosh) starred as a hangman (Berry) – actually the High Executioner to the King of England – and his American assistant (Fulcher) in this short BBC3 comedy series.
The duo spent their days hanging condemned souls for cash, chasing women and sitting in their rather posh gentleman’s club sipping whiskey. The club also contained a portal to 1888, where Rich visited with Matt’s great uncle, Sir Charles (who is implied to be Jack the Ripper).
Recurring sketches included Matt in various guises attempting to pick up women and reacting when they casually mention a boyfriend; and Matt and Rich as songwriters who got into arguments with famous singers who came into their studio.

In the final episode, Rich fell in love with (and married) a woman named Grendel, who, though beautiful, spoke entirely in dubbed-in chimpanzee noises.
Guests on the series included Alan Ford as a priest, Stephen K Amos (as Jimi Hendrix), Richard Ayoade, and Paul Tomkinson.
