This delightful follow-up to The Addams Family (1991) is blessed with an even blacker vein of humour than the original.
Gomez and Morticia (Raul Julia and Anjelica Huston) have a new baby boy (the mustached Pubert), much to the displeasure of their other jealous children Wednesday and Pugsley (Christina Ricci and Jimmy Workman), while Fester has fallen under the spell of the youngster’s scheming black widow husband-killing nanny, Debbie (Joan Cusack).
In order to get the suspicious kids out of her way, she convinces the Addams to send Wednesday and Pugsley off to a WASPy summer camp (run by the psychotically enthusiastic Peter MacNicol and Christine Baranski).
Once again, the playing is faultless, but it is Ricci who effortlessly steals the show, whether trying to bump off her new sibling or creating havoc at the all-American summer camp.
The sets are wonderful, the cinematography exquisite and Barry Sonnenfeld’s direction is exhilarating.
