American millionaire Robert L Talbot (Rock Hudson) takes his Italian girlfriend Lisa Fellini (Gina Lollobrigida) to his luxurious villa only to find that the rendezvous haven has been turned into a hotel by his majordomo Maurice Clavell (Walter Slezak) to make some easy money while the boss isn’t around.
The guests are six young college students – including Sandy Stevens (Sandra Dee) – and their chaperone. Fireworks begin when four brash American college boys show up at the hotel and one, Tony (Bobby Darin in his first major motion picture), sets his cap for Sandy.
Talbot finds himself involved as a matter of conscience in keeping the young med student away from Sandy. Matters become even more complicated from there, especially for Talbot and Lisa.
The big surprise is Gina Lollobrigida as a comedienne. She scintillates as a frolicsome playmate who has a sudden strong desire for a matrimonial alliance with Hudson.
Sandra Dee is the personification of youth and glamour.
She makes every scene glitter. She and Bobby Darin played their love so realistically on the screen that the pair decided to take their roles seriously and become engaged in real life before the film was completed.
They were married five days after their return to the United States.
Veteran performer Walter Slezak is charming, continental and full of whimsy.
In Technicolor and Cinemascope, the movie was filmed in Rome and on the Italian Riviera.
