Stanley Fabian (Frank Lovejoy) owns a busy drive-in diner in Hollywood and is in love with one of the carhops, Joanie Daniel (Mari Blanchard).
She persuades Stan to back a desperate scheme to recover a fortune in gold supposedly hidden away in Germany by her brother, Frank (Richard Denning), at the end of World War II.
Stan is unaware that both Joanie and Frank are undercover agents, engaged to be married, and hired to trap Stan into confessing a murder committed by him in Germany while he was in the army shortly after the war.
The problem is, they must obtain the confession in Germany – the scene of the crime – and get evidence that will stand up in court. Their campaign for a confession is aided by both the US Army and the German police.
Frank Lovejoy is excellent as the embattled killer who discovers, on payoff night, that he has been caught in a deadly web of intrigue and murder.
