Two days before his wedding, Doug Billings (Justin Bartha) travels to Las Vegas for a bachelor party with his best friends Phil (Bradley Cooper) and Stu (Ed Helms), and his eccentric future brother-in-law Alan (Zach Galifianakis).
After a night of heavy drinking on the roof of Caesars Palace, Phil, Stu, and Alan wake up the next morning with no memory of the previous night. They find their suite trashed, a tiger in the bathroom, a baby in the closet, and Doug is missing.
The trio spends the day retracing their fragmented memories to find Doug before the wedding.
Their journey reveals several outrageous events about their previous night, from being accidentally drugged with “roofies” by Alan to Stu marrying a stripper named Jade (Heather Graham), despite having a controlling girlfriend (Rachael Harris) at home.
They also discover they stole a Bengal tiger from boxing legend Mike Tyson, who eventually forces them to return it to his mansion.
Meanwhile, they are being hunted by a flamboyant gangster named Mr Chow (Ken Jeong), who claims they stole $80,000 from him.
After Alan wins the money back by card counting at blackjack, they attempt a prisoner exchange for Doug, only to find that Mr Chow’s “Doug” is actually a drug dealer known as Black Doug (Mike Epps).
With only hours left before the wedding, Stu finally deduces that the real Doug has been on the hotel roof the entire time, having been locked out there as a practical joke.
They rescue a severely sunburned Doug and race back to Los Angeles, arriving just in time for the ceremony.
The film concludes with the guys discovering a digital camera containing photos of their wild, forgotten night, which they agree to look at once before deleting the evidence.
Jim Henson’s Creature Shop created Mike Tyson’s realistic tiger, complete with giant, swiping paws. “It was amazing,” enthused Ed Helms. “Its entire face moved. It had, like all these little motors in its eyebrows and cheeks and mouth.”
The “Wolfpack” returned in two sequels – The Hangover Part II (2011), set in Bangkok, and The Hangover Part III (2013), set on a road trip.
