20-year-old Lena (Lena Nyman) wants to know all she can about life and reality. She collects information on everyone and everything, storing her findings in an enormous archive.
She experiments with relationships, political activism, and meditation.
Meanwhile, the actors, director (Vilgot Sjöman), and crew in this Swedish production appear in a humorous parallel plot about making the film and their reactions to the story and each other.
American Customs seized a copy of the film in New York in January 1968.
Arthur Olick, an assistant US attorney, said the film was seized because “it leaves nothing to the imagination, including the act of fornication”.
Including, also, a sequence in which Nyman plants a kiss on her costar’s penis in full view (it was the first commercial film to show male genitals). British censors cut eleven minutes from the film when it was released in the UK.
The same cast and crew simultaneously filmed the companion piece, I Am Curious (Blue).
