Troublesome Double, The (1972)

This film from the Children’s Film Foundation (CFF) was a sequel to the 1970 CFF film, Egghead’s Robot.

Elspeth Wentworth (Julie Collins) is easily beaten by the mayor’s niece Sylvia and her friends in an impromptu swimming race.

So naturally, they all laugh at her when she declares that she will beat them all and win Mayor Lewis’s cup at a forthcoming festival.

Elspeth’s inventor brother Paul – aka “Egghead” (future Swap Shop star Keith Chegwin) – is a young electronics genius who comes to her rescue by making a robot double of Elspeth named Samantha (Tracey Collins) and programming it to swim the fastest crawl in the world!
