A child’s doll is filled with heroin packets in Montreal to be sent to New York on an Air Canada flight with the carrier Lisa (Samantha Jones). All goes to plan and she makes it to NYC where she asks innocent photographer Sam Hendrix (Efrem Zimbalist Jr) to help her out and take the doll for her. He does indeed take it – all the way to his basement apartment where he lives with his recently blinded wife Susy (Audrey Hepburn).
Lisa’s three associates track down the location fairly easily, and Mike Talman (Richard Crenna) and his partner in crime Carlino (Jack Weston) let themselves in to see if they can get the doll back.
Oscar-nominated Hepburn is quite superb as the blind woman who keeps her wits about her when the drug dealers break into her apartment and the final showdown between her and Alan Arkin is a classic spine-tingler.
Arkin pulls out all the terror stops as the leader of the gang, and director Terence Young never lets the suspense drop.
The music was by Henry Mancini. Robby Benson was an extra.
