1 9 5 1 (USA)
50 x 30 minute episodes
Premiering on Monday 23 April 1951, this rather dry and boring daily CBS classroom presentation of information was designed for children ages 9 to 13 and had themes for each day of the week.
Monday – subtitled “The World and You” – dealt with current events, government, books, games and history.
Tuesday – subtitled “How To Do It” (with Paul Fromer, the supervisor of Industrial Arts for New York high schools, acting as moderator) – featured demonstrations in handicraft and industrial arts.
Wednesday – subtitled “Why?” (with George Gillespie) – dealt with science and explained such everyday objects as the telephone, the flight of aircraft, the cause of thunder etc.
Thursday’s “How to Draw” (with S B Valentine) and Friday’s “How to Dance” (with Charles Columbus) were self-explanatory.
The show posed no threat to The Kate Smith Hour on NBC and perished after two-and-a-half months.
