Gardeners’ World

1 9 6 8 – Current (UK)

This full-colour successor to the highly popular Gardening Club was launched by the much-respected Percy Thrower on 5 January 1968, using his own garden in Shrewsbury as a backdrop.

Over the years, reports on shows and garden visits have intercut the sound gardening basics the programme has placed at its core, although the range and scope of plants and plots have expanded considerably, thanks to the garden centre boom of the past 20 years.

Alan Titchmarsh took over as host in 1996 following the death of Geoff Hamilton. Other presenters have included Arthur Billitt, Monty Don, Carol Klein, Joe Swift, Rachel de Thame, Flo Headlam, Alan Power, Nick Bailey and Mark Lane.

Gardeners’ World celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2017 with a special programme broadcast from the Gardeners’ World Live show.
