30 minute episodes
This highly popular long-running Canadian panel game show (which began as a summer replacement for Front Page Challenge in 1971) combined lighthearted sketch comedy with legal trivia, tasking a celebrity panel with identifying obscure, real-life Canadian laws.
Each episode featured two or three short and funny silent film clips in which a bumbling character (played by actor Paul Soles) went about a series of eccentric activities.
During his antics, Soles’ character would unknowingly commit an offence, breaking a highly specific, real – but completely bizarre – law or historic statute.
A policeman (played by actor Robert Warner) would suddenly arrive on screen and lead the hapless lawbreaker away in handcuffs.
The celebrity panel would trade funny quips before trying to deduce exactly which obscure law was just broken. Every featured law was verified as still legally active on the books.
Veteran actor Austin Willis served as the master of ceremonies, presenting the clips and revealing the correct legal answers at the end of each round.
