Five talented new faces in British comedy – Brian Conley, northern comic Peter Piper, Eve Ferret, Sharon Maiden and Andrew Secombe (son of Harry) – came together in this ITV showcase from TVS which began as a one-off special in August 1986 with musical guests Five Star.
The show returned as a summer series in 1987, with sketches and “quickies” aimed at the 18 – 30-year-old demographic. This time, Conley, Piper and Secombe were joined by Doon Mackichan and Joanna Brookes.
The 1988 series saw Phil Nice take over from Andy Secombe.
Regular characters included heavy metal bikers Tin Foil and Light Alloy. The show boasted 27 writers!
