This syndicated half-hour live-action children’s series debuted on 19 September 1987 and revolved around a bunch of kids who find a disused TV studio and turn it into their clubhouse.
They learn how to use the equipment and begin making and broadcasting their own music videos – on The Kidsongs TV Show – “The one and only show made for kids, by kids and starring kids”.
Borrowing its format from Your Hit Parade, the series presented songs for children sung by children (the Kidsongs Kids), including pop hits, traditional songs such as Old MacDonald Had a Farm and I’ve Been Working On The Railroad, and international favourites, all chosen especially for children aged two to ten.
The young hosts were Triskin Potter and Chris Lytton.
The series went on to sell more than 4 million copies on home video. The final episode aired on 12 March 1988.
The Kidsongs concept was revisited from 1994 to 1995, and again in 1997, with a completely different cast (and some costumed characters known as the Biggles).
