Rubber-faced comedian Jim Carrey returned to the screen as the hyperkinetic sleuth from the previous year’s hit Ace Ventura, Pet Detective.
Ace’s newest adventure found him in the jungles of Africa on the trail of the stolen Shikaka – the sacred great white bat of the Wachati tribe. If he fails, there will be a tribal war between the Wachati tribe and the Wachootoo tribes.
The Wachati show their affection by spitting, and Ventura noisily demonstrates that he’s really affectionate. He also helps a hungry chick by vomiting into its mouth. And in the most disgusting but amusing scene of all, a stunned group of tourists watch as a mechanical rhino gives birth to a fully-formed Ace.
Sadly, it isn’t only the geography that is sprawling. So is the anorexic script. With such a thin storyline, this movie is Jim Carrey, the whole Jim Carrey and nothing but Jim Carrey.
The man still suffers from verbal diarrhoea and as Ace fans know, one orifice isn’t enough to talk from! You always know what you’re going to get with Jim Carrey . . .
