This short-lived CBS series was essentially a 1970’s version of Charlie Chan, with wily Chinese-American private eye Khan (Khigh Dheigh – whose real name was Ken Davis) solving unusual murders in San Francisco’s Chinatown by combining modern detective methods and technology with his culture’s innate wisdom.
Helping him were his college-educated children Kim (Evan C. Kim) and Anna (Irene Yah-Ling Sun). Lt. Gubbins (Vic Tayback) was Khan’s police contact.
Guest stars included Victor Buono, George Takei, Patrick Macnee, Mercedes McCambridge and Clu Gulager.
Khan! sparked many protests among the Asian-American community and some CBS affiliates refused to air the show. CBS pulled the series after the second episode and only four of the seven produced episodes aired in the US (although all seven episodes aired during a run on Australian television in 1976).
