Carl Weathers, the former Oakland Raiders star who sparred with Sylvester Stallone in three Rocky movies, stars in the title role of Sgt. Jericho ‘Action’ Jackson.
The venerable Detroit cop with a law degree engages in plenty of shootings, explosions and car chases in the pursuit of power-hungry sexual-deviant auto executive Peter Dellaplane (Craig T. Nelson) who orders the murders of union leaders.
Spectacular stunts dominate the picture while plotting, dialogue and acting are secondary. Cars flip, flames leap, people flip and leap in flames out of windows.
Unfortunately, Weathers – who was well-cast as Apollo Creed – doesn’t have the necessary charisma for this more ambitious role. He looks great but lacks presence.
Vanity (former Prince protégé) plays Dellaplane’s slinky drug-addicted mistress and sings Undress Me. Sharon Stone is also in it: Spoiler Alert! She dies.
