It is graduation time at California’s surf-side Pacifica College – the culmination of four years of sun, sea, surf and occasional study.
Before donning their caps and gowns, though, these gilded youths plan one final dusk-to-dawn party.
For roommates Molly (Susanna Hoffs), Val (Dedee Pfeiffer) and Gina (Joan Cusack), this is the first night of the rest of their lives.
The Allnighter was pure vanity filmmaking – an attempt to turn singer Hoffs from The Bangles into a movie star (it was made by her mother) which failed because she’s not a very good actress, and the film isn’t that great either.
Hoffs and co-star Dedee Pfeiffer (Michelle’s sister) are out of their depth, but the performances of the more experienced Joan Cusack and Michael Ontkean help make this a passable, slightly saucy comedy.
The teens cavort at the annual graduation fiesta on the beach, get entangled with hookers at a nearby hotel, spend some silly moments in the slammer and drink lots of neon coloured drinks out of blenders.
