Larry Gormley (Tim Curry) dreams of becoming a star entertainer, but until then he drives a London mini-cab and works as a chauffeur for the shady Ramirez (George Irving).
One day he has a look in the suitcase that Ramirez is carrying around: it’s full of money – £250,000 to be precise.
He can’t resist and steals it. In front of his friends, he claims he’s finally got a contract with a famous director and invites them to celebrate, while the mob is after the money.
On hand as Larry’s girlfriend, Pam, is delicious newcomer Debby Bishop who duo’s with Curry in a zippy rendering of the Ray Charles song Hit The Road Jack.
Billy Connolly puts in a guest appearance as an unexpectedly greasy and vicious hitch-hiker they pick up while driving to Liverpool and then on to Dublin.
