Selkirk is an “Approved School” where young miscreants are sent as a last resort. If they don’t mend their ways here they are sent “inside” following their next offence.
The school’s imperious headmaster, Mr Sutton (Oliver Reed) believes in a tough, unrelenting discipline. One of his teachers, Miss MacMichael (Glenda Jackson) favours a more humane, enlightened approach and she also has the guts to stand up to her bullying superior.
It’s a rowdy comedy-drama with the students farting to disrupt assembly, shagging in the headmaster’s office and generally indulging in violence, thievery and chronic unruliness.
