No doubt relishing the steady paychecks, Jim Varney and director John Cherry just kept crankin’ out the Ernest movies, and they just kept going straight to video.
This time around, Ernest P Worrell (Varney) joined the Army Reserves, so he could drive the big rigs and ended up challenging a power-hungry Middle Eastern dictator. He also found himself caring for a lost boy.
This was the final Ernest film and Jim Varney’s final on-screen appearance as the character of Ernest P Worrell.
Varney was diagnosed with lung cancer a year before production began but felt he would recover eventually. He became increasingly ill as production continued and was noticeably weak during filming. Varney died two years later, on 10 February 2000, aged just 50.
