A nerve gas leak in Alaska kills everyone over the age of 25 in this hopelessly surreal comedy from cult director Roger Corman.
The expected Utopia doesn’t materialise, however, in a freewheeling romp that features Hell’s Angels, Che Guevara, Edgar Allan Poe and Martin Luther King.
Odd gangs have organised, like the fascistic warmongers who behave and dress like a football team (pictured below), or the automobile scavengers who “shoot” victims by aiming guns and shouting the names of cowboy-movie actors (Best line in this scene: “Maybe I could’ve just winged him with a Dale Robertson or a Clint Eastwood.”)
Talia Shire, Ben Vereen and Cindy Williams all make their first significant film appearances in this time-capsule oddity, but Corman takes aim at too many hip targets and doesn’t hit any of them successfully.
After the film was heavily cut by his usual distributors, AIP, Corman set up his own production company, New World.
