Pa Kettle (Percy Kilbride) – a much-married man – wins a trip to New York in a slogan-writing competition for Bubble-ola soft drink.
He and Ma (Marjorie Main) need someone to look after their gazillion kids while they are gone, and bank robber Shotgun Mike Munger (Charles McGraw) offers to take on the job.
Unaware of Munger’s true profession (he professes to be a poet), the Kettles accept.
Pa also agrees to deliver a black bag to Munger’s associates in New York, little knowing that it is stuffed with $100,000 of stolen banknotes.
In New York, the Kettles find themselves mixed up with rival racketeers but survive. Meanwhile, their kids look after Munger!
This was the third of eight films in which Marjorie Main and Percy Kilbride portrayed Ma and Pa Kettle.
Released in some markets as Going To Town.
