Andy Paxton (singer Pat Boone in his first dramatic role) is an arrogant, egomaniacal pop crooner who treats his staff poorly (a stark departure from Boone’s real-life squeaky-clean persona).
On the very night his wife, Lissa (future I Dream of Jeannie star Barbara Eden), demands a divorce and he begins a major engagement in Los Angeles, they return home to find their infant son has been kidnapped and the child’s nurse has been murdered.
The kidnappers have demanded a ransom of $200,000.
Despite explicit objections from the lead detective on the case, Lieutenant Bonner (Jack Klugman), Paxton decides to play along with the kidnappers’ dangerous cat-and-mouse game.
As the harrowing search unfolds, Paxton is forced to reckon with the harsh reality that, despite his massive fame and riches, he has no real friends.
It is ultimately revealed that the mastermind behind the plot is actually his own psychotic bodyguard and sycophant, Hub Wiley (Steve Forrest).

The screenplay was adapted from the Whit Masterson novel Evil Come, Evil Go by The Twilight Zone creator Rod Serling.
Funds ran low during production, so Pat Boone invested his own money to ensure the film could be finished.
