If it wasn’t for the fact that this American group were signed to George Harrison‘s Dark Horse label (the band were friends of his girlfriend and future wife, Olivia), it is doubtful the world would have ever been troubled by Jiva.
The band were a traditional hard-rock lineup – bass, drums and two guitars – but also disciples of Prem Rawat, also known as Maharaj-ji, a child guru.

Their 1975 self-titled debut album was bland and undistinguished. Gary Wright’s guest appearance on keyboards added some flavour but hardly solved the problem. To porote the album, Jiva supported Fleetwood Mac on a 36-city US tour.
The group left Dark Horse in 1976 and released two more (unsuccessful) albums in the ensuing years, both filled with songs of devotion to their guru, Maharaj-ji.
