English singer Laurie London was born in Bethnal Green, East London in 1944. At the age of 13, he recorded a version of the spiritual He’s Got the Whole World In His Hands with The Geoff Love Orchestra for Parlophone.
The single was picked up by Capitol Records in the USA and became a #1 pop hit in America in 1958.
Laurie London never again achieved major chart success, and he retired from recording by the age of 19.
Later cover versions of the Cliff Richard hit Lucky Lips (1963) and The Bells of St Mary (1966) went unnoticed.
