Formed in Melbourne in 1994, initially as a cover band called Runaway Boys (named after a song from the Stray Cats’ debut album), this Australian trio mixed 1950s rockabilly swagger with aggressive, melodic 1990s punk rock and built a reputation for blistering live performances.
The group catapulted to national stardom in 1997 with the release of their breakout double A-side single, Second Solution b/w Prisoner of Society, which became the best-selling Australian single of the 1990s and spent a record-breaking 69 weeks on the Australian charts.
Their self-titled debut album debuted at #1, earning them international tours alongside bands like Green Day and Blink-182.
Pairing politically charged, social-commentary lyrics with infectious pop-punk hooks and rockabilly slap-bass, the group consistently delivered hit records, and subsequent albums like Roll On (2000), State of Emergency (2006), and White Noise (2008) maintained their status at the top of the Australian rock hierarchy.
Drummer Andy Strachan joined the band in 2002.
