This Leeds-based goth-tinged band revolved around Phil Morris (vocals) and Paul James Berry (guitar), with the remainder of the line-up prone to frequent change.
They came to the fore following heavy airplay from Radio1 DJ John Peel, where their debut single, LA Rain, finished high in his “Festive Fifty”. They followed it up with Castles In The Sky and Velveteen (a tribute to Nico).
After disputes with the independent label, Fire (who released their early singles and their 1988 LP, Blaze ) the group established their own label, called Avalantic.
They released seven albums before splitting up in 1993.
Berry was involved in a car accident in 2009 and spent a number of years in a wheelchair.
