Granny Glasses

Despite their name, granny glasses were a fashion statement of vibrant youth. Also known as Ben Franklin glasses, the specs first started appearing in the mid-1960s in California.

They adorned such famous faces as Roger McGuinn of The Byrds (who actually claimed credit as creator of the glasses) and John Lennon and rapidly became a must-have mod fashion accessory.

With their half-size rectangular lenses, granny glasses looked just right with a baggy, ankle-length granny dress.

Within about two years, however, the trend was dead.
