Premiering on 23 September 1955, this lighthearted Friday evening potpourri of songs and comedy sketches from Associated-Rediffusion was presented by good-natured northerner Reg Dixon.
His guests and supporting players included Austin Melford, Lucia Guillon, Carl Bernard, Dorothy Blythe, Anita Sharp-Bolster, Dorothy Gordon, Victor Platt, Norman Fellowes, Elizabeth Larner, Frederick Piper, Redman Bailey and Julia Shelley.
A recurring segment on the show was Reg’s introduction of a “Miss Anonymous”, designed to provide a television debut for various (comparatively) unknown female singers who were not named until the show’s end.
Dixon wanted viewers to judge the ladies based on their voices and looks alone and write in to say if they approved.
