This series of undersea exploration films featured the Austrian husband-and-wife team of Hans and Lotte Hass.
Hans was the director of the International Institute for Submarine Research in Vienna, and the series saw the photogenic aquanauts diving beneath the Caribbean, the Aegean and the Red Sea.
The six episodes presented fish (some comic, some surly), living coral, old wrecks that had lain unseen by the human eye for decades on the bed of the sea, animals that looked like plants, plants that looked like animals, a deserted city killed by coral, dynamite fishermen, a whale hunt and a colony of good-humoured seals.
Hans and Lotte returned with Undersea World of Adventure in 1958 and Adventure in 1959/1960, this time accompanied by a team of scientists onboard the marine research vessel Xarifai, exploring life under the Indian Ocean.
Hass died on 16 June 2013 in Vienna. He was 94. Lotte Hass died in Vienna on 14 January 2015, aged 86.
