15 x 60 minute episodes
This ABC series presented the investigations and courtroom defences of brothers Walter (Gary Merrill) and Peter (William Prince) Guilfoyle who were attorneys in New York City.
Peter loved a good murder and solved them often by taking a nap and descending into the “mental underworld” to imagine himself as the criminal. Pipe-smoking brother Walter was more staid and deplored his brother’s interest in crime.
Debuting on 10 January 1954, The Mask was billed as “television’s first hour-long mystery series”. It was broadcast live on Sunday evenings and rebroadcast (via kinescope) on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.
The final episode aired on 16 May 1954.
