This long-running top-rated Australian variety show from HSV7 Melbourne grew out of a popular radio variety show called The Happy Gang on Radio 3DB in Melbourne and was hosted by race caller and radio personality Bill Collins.
The regular cast on the Friday night show included Marie Parker, “Honest” John Gilbert, Ernie Sigley, Rosie Sturgess, Gaynor Bunning, Syd Heylen, Shirlene Clancy, Syd Hollister, Chris Christensen, Vivienne Carroll, Jack Manuel, Greg Sutton and Jennifer Eddy, ballet dancers Rex Reid and Audrey Nicholls, Irene Hallan and newcomer Lorraine Flannigan.
After eight years, the final Sunnyside Up show aired on Friday 17 June 1966 – a victim of budget cuts to locally-produced television shows in the face of stiff competition from programmes imported from interstate and overseas.
