This short-lived CBS series was based on the 1981 movie of the same name starring Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor.
The two big names were replaced here by Joe Guzaldo as Skip Harrington and Larry Riley as Harry Fletcher – ostensibly the same characters from the film, albeit with different surnames here.
After being wrongfully imprisoned for a murder they did not commit, Skip and Harry escaped from their Texas prison (disguised as members of a Japanese TV crew filming a documentary on American prison brutality) and went on a cross-country search for the real killer (Marc Silver).
Chasing them was Captain Betty Phillips (played by Polly Holliday in the pilot episode and thence by Jeannie Wilson).
