This anthology drama series from Associated-Rediffusion presented stories of people who take a gamble – sometimes with their lives – in order to prove a point or better their position.
One particularly impressive episode, The Glory of Llewellyn Smiley (30 December 1967), starred Ralph Michael as ageing General Cudlipp who lived in a home for retired officers and Ronnie Barker as Llewellyn Smiley, the commissionaire at the local cinema who Cudlipp gambles can pass for a retired officer.
Other guest stars throughout the 20 episodes included Alfred Burke, Ronald Lacey, James Beck, Christopher Benjamin, Neville Buswell, Richard Carpenter, Bernard Lee, Ivor Dean, Joe Lynch, Michael Robbins, Norman Rossington, Patsy Rowlands, Frank Windsor, Rosemary Leach, Nyree Dawn Porter, Gordon Rollings and George Sewell.
