Bond Street antique dealer Patrick Woodford (Patrick Cargill) has been married six times and all of his marriages have failed.

Now he’s planning to divorce his sixth wife, Helen (Elizabeth Counsell), and remarry his first wife, Elizabeth (Ursula Howells). Unfortunately, he is not rich enough to initiate divorce proceedings so must find a way to make her want to divorce him.

Meanwhile, his other ex-wives – Nancy (Elspet Gray), Josephine (Wendy Williams), Laura (Bridget Armstrong) and Betsy (Lorna Dallas) – keep popping in and out of his life (conveniently, they all live within walking distance of Patrick).

Plots revolved around forgotten birthdays, anniversaries, and the like.

Patrick was often aided by his overworked assistant, Harold (Robin Parkinson) and harangued by his formidable mother, Marian (Agnes Lauchlan).
