John Woodvine starred in this London Weekend Television police drama series which presented a grippingly authentic portrayal of detective work in London during the rapidly changing 1970s.
Detective Chief Superintendent John Kingdom (Woodvine) of the Central Office of the CID had worked his way to the top through a number of Greater London divisions.
He knew the force and he knew the villains.
With a quiet authority and a workaholic drive, he tackled some of the capital’s most serious, high-profile, and perplexing cases, assisted by his equally efficient colleague, Detective Inspector Alan Ward (John Carlisle).
The series was Executive-produced by Rex Firkin and featured ex-Chief Superintendent Frank Williams (former head of the Yard’s Murder Squad) as advisor.
