The BBC series Screen Test quizzed school teams on their observational powers after running clips from famous movies. Just five programmes were made initially (in black & white) to fill the Blue Peter time slot while that show was on summer break.
The next five episodes were filmed in colour and the show stuck around for 15 years.
Hosted originally by Michael Rodd (pictured above and below right), Brian Trueman took over as presenter in 1979.
A regular fixture was the Young Film Makers Competition, which encouraged wannabe directors to experiment behind the camera.
